Greetings from the President

As President of the Japan Endovascular Treatment Conference (JET) 2023, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my greetings.

It has already been 8 years since I welcomed everyone as the President to JET 2014, which was held on a very snowy day. Since then, our regular conferences have clearly established JET as a place for disseminating information, and JET has grown to become the representative conference on EVT in Japan. If I recall, 8 years ago, our main goal was to sustain JET as a conference, and at that time, I never could have dreamed that one day we would be organizing JET 2023. Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to the many people involved for their guidance and support.

The main theme of JET 2023 is “Diversity and inclusion.” At JET, diversity is represented by healthcare professionals who have many different values and backgrounds, and the present theme is based on the idea that creating and providing new values through discussions will help JET grow even further.

Because real-world clinical practice is diverse, we believe that progress cannot happen without acknowledging diversity. Guidelines are the accumulation of evidence and are important tools to provide healthcare professionals with standard therapeutic approaches. However, participants included in large-scale controlled trials are known to account for only about 30% of all patients actually encountered in clinical practice. In other words, the efficacy and safety of treatments investigated in clinical studies are uncertain in 70% of patients, and in this sense, real-world clinical practice includes aspects of uncertain medical care. Therefore, today’s medical practice requires shared decision-making based on clinician expertise (e.g., skills, techniques), patient wishes and values, and (individual) clinical situations, as well as the best evidence. Now that various treatment strategies are available, EVT is about to enter the period of maturity, having progressed from its initial period of growth after its early days. Thus, it is all the more important to create and provide various values related to EVT. I hope that you will experience this wonderful moment at JET 2023.

The conference will be held from May 26 (Friday) through 28 (Sunday), 2023, at a new location, the Akasaka Intercity Conference Center, instead of the Hilton Tokyo Hotel in Shinjuku, where JET 2014 was held 8 years ago. I would like to invite you to join us in this comfortable space in the center of Tokyo, and I look forward to seeing you all there at JET 2023.
